Active Chapters Chapter Structure Rights & Responsibilities Forming Chapters
Forming a new Heroic Chapter is an intensive process commensurate with the commitment that a new Chapter Director is making to Heroic members. By taking on a Chapter, you're committing to providing regular events according to the schedule that you set, and to run them at the high quality expected of Heroic Games. You'll have a staff to manage, plot to coordinate, and players to entertain. It's no small task, but we're here to help.
To begin, you'll need to do quite a bit of research. Being an experienced player will help tremendously, but is not strictly necessary. Read through the existing Heroic rules sets, find out how our organization functions, and get to know many of our members. Attend as many events as possible so you can have the best possible understanding of how we run things.
When you're ready, you need to start putting together your staff. At the very least, you'll need a Head of Plot (who will lead your Game staff) a Logistics Manager (who will handle all of your reporting to the national organization) and a Properties Master (who will oversee the creation and care of the vast number of props and costumes that a healthy chapter will obtain over time). You will most likely wear at least one of these hats yourself, but the more people you can trust to help you, the better off you will be.
At the same time, you'll need to start talking to the Heroic Board of Directors about your vision for your Chapter, the Games you would like to run, and in which Campaigns they will be included. If you plan to develop your own Campaign or rules, this is the stage to do that. Though we recommend that most new Chapter Directors stick to our Core Rules and our Core Campaign, this is not a requirement.
When everything is ready, you'll be able to make a presentation to the Board, and if the Board feels that you will be a strong addition to Heroic, you'll be offered a contract. Though this contract carries many responsibilities for the new Chapter Director, it also grants certain privileges. Both can increase as your Chapter matures, and, if you become a strong supporter of the organization, you may eventually have your own seat on the Board. Most likely, the Board will have suggestions about your plan, adjustments that you can make to improve the fit between your proposed Chapter and Heroic.
After your Chapter is running, the relationship doesn't slow down. We will appoint a mentor Chapter to help your new Satellite Chapter get off the ground right. They will help you with Plot and Logistics, as well as lend you props to help you run your first few events. When you're fully operational (our benchmark is four events and at least six months), your Chapter will be evaluated by the Board for promotion to Full Chapter. As long as everything is in order, this won't be a problem.
As a side note: If you're already running a Game suitable for inclusion in Heroic, the vetting process is much simpler, since you already have your infrastructure set up and just want to hook into our network. We have to handle these on a case-by-case basis, but we are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible.
